Municipal History

The Rural Municipality of Great Bend No. 405 was incorporated on December 12, 1910.  The Municipality is located 40 kilometers North-West of Saskatoon on the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway No. 16 which runs through the Municipality. Two urban centres, the Village of Borden and the Town of Radisson are in the Municipality.  The South and East boundaries of the Municipality are the North Saskatchewan River, the West boundary extends two miles west of Radisson, and the Northern boundary is 12 miles North of Borden. The nine Township Municipality has in excess of 200,000 acres.  Land use is of an agricultural nature consisting of grain farming and the livestock industry.

The R.M. of Great Bend No. 405 was home to Canada’s 13th Prime Minister The Honorable John G. Diefenbaker.  A cairn marks the original homestead and the country school he attended is designated as a Municipal Heritage Site, the Halcyonia Community Centre.
